My very first impression of this book was . . . Wow! If I were browsing the shelves at the bookstore, this one would definitely catch my eye. The colors and lettering just oozes style.
Being a flight attendant, I found this book especially useful because even though we wear a uniform at work, you should see the way my co-workers dress on our layovers. Sometimes I feel like I'm back in high school trying to keep up with the latest fashions.
This book covers various topics such as the basics that every closet should contain, where fashions come from, what to wear in different situations, and tips and tricks from major fashion icons.
What I think they could have done better was maybe use some actual photos to help illustrate their ideas and suggestions better. The drawings that they do have are great but not very practical.
What I really liked about this book is that not only does it give you basic tips on how to put outfits and accessories together, it also stresses that everyone has their own style. Wearing the current trends is not as important as being comfortable with who you are. Confidence is the most important accessory a woman can wear.
However, the coolest thing about this book is all the quotes scattered throughout. My favorite is:
Fashion can be bought. Style one must posses.

I wish I had never worn Peter Pan collars. Ugh. I was young and stupid, and those things made me look even younger.
Ick.
Bell bottom pants and blue mascara. Yikes! :D
The Marilyn Monroe sundress (the one she's wearing standing over a subway vent) when I put on 10? 20? lbs. At the time I loved the fantasy that I exuded sex apeal like she did but I don't think I have enough money to buy back all the pictures I look terrible in.
I wish I had never worn... any of the outfits my mom used to dress me in!! Too many frills, too much pink... aghhhh!
I wish I never wore leg warmers with my school uniform skirts! :)
Platform shoes, ugh!!! It's a miracle that I didn't fall off and break my ankle.
Anything modeled after Madonna in the 80s! Did I just give away my age?
I wish I had never worn a coral dress to a friend's wedding rehearsal dinner where all the girls had black dresses on.
A burgundy cordoroy jumper that my mother made for me in junior high. I got teased SOOOOO badly!
Thank GOD someone burned that sucka.
XOXO
Parachute pants. Most definitely!
Anything and everything fushia/neon/glow in the dark.
Ummm I was a fashion disaster when I was younger (well...sometimes now too LOL)...I guess my worst would be the lime green shorts with lace on the bottom - yuck!
The list of things I wish I'd never worn is quite lengthy . . .
Let's start with bellbottoms and wrap up with giant 80's shoulder pads, ok? (There was a lot between, though, including stirrup pants. Yeesh.)
Oh I would like to read this one. Like you, I think the cover is very attractive. Hey, I'm still wearing clothes I wish I wouldn't.
Gosh, How can I pick just one thing...
* Blue eyeshadow with blue eyeliner
* Jelly shoes
* White shirts with the ribbon tied around the neck in a bow...that along with the plaid pleated skirt. (5th grade)
I wish I hadn't put fresh flowers around my head on my wedding. They were not positioned well and they looked funny when the pictures came out, like horns. Ugh!
Definately wish I'd never worn lime green bicycle shorts.
I wish I hadn't worn bellbottoms when pegged jeans were in. I also wish I hadn't tried to dress like my mom when I was 18 - no wonder I couldn't get a date!
I wish I hadn't worn my Bongo platform tennis shoes. Wow! What was I thinking?
I wish I hadn't worn pink sweatpants with huge holes in the knees for so long. It looks okay (if somewhat ragged) in pictures of a five year old, but by the time I was ten? Not such a great idea.
I've seen that book and been curious about it!
The thing I wish I never had worn, those ugly Gunnysack dresses. Of course, I was young and not buying my own clothing yet, but I didn't like them at all!
Jelly shoes and NEON!! I still shiver when I think back on those days.
I wish I never wore school socks with my high-heel sandals...even if they killed me, I should have resisted! waaaah! I looked really stupid. And to think I was 18. I wonder what the others thought of me.. scary!
I wish I never wore the overalls on Fridays to school when I was younger. Why my mom would make me wear overalls to school every Friday I will never know!!!
I wish I never wore thost "preppy" sweaters in the 80's with whales and ducks around the collar.
I would have to say anything Dayglo---very popular when I was a teen in the 80s. Not a good color on anyone...
I'd have to say that one thing that I really regret are the REALLY big shoulder pads!!! Thanks for the giveaway.

Bell bottom pants.... need I say more.
I blogged this contest too. Thursday Edition of Contests Galore
Went to a wedding back in 1991. I wore the most hideous black dress that did not flatter my body whatsoever. It had big gold buttons and I know that I wore it with ugly brown pany hose as well. To top it off, I wore bright pink shimmery lipstick and some real BIG hair.
Shoulder pads and jelly shoes are good ones, but I'm going to go with the *really* baggy sweaters and sweatshirts (often paired with leggings, of course).
I wish I'd never worn stirrup pants. Ugh. And those hideous body suits.
Blue eyeshadow and stirrup pants. sigh...
Um it is a toss up between stirrup pants & bike shorts, LOL Love the quote your shared, so true!
I wish I hadn't worn the big flowered dress to my brother's wedding...
I wish I never went to my sister's ballet class, her classmates would have not played a prank on me and made me wear those pink "tights". I cringe whenever I remember that fateful day... *sob*
