If you haven't already heard about this book, you've probably been out of the country or experiencing power blackout because Deceptively Delicious is the talk of the town.
Not only is it written by Jessica Seinfield (wife of Jerry) but it's already received many celebrity endorsements, include the Big O herself. When Jessica appeared on the Oprah show, she impressed the talk show host enough to receive her highly coveted approval.
The whole premise of this book is to get kids to eat healthily, by “hiding” pureed vegetables and fruits in everyday foods that your kids eat. When you think about it, the concept is quite simple. I just wonder why I never thought about it. She even puts spinach and carrots in her brownies! Now that's just darn right sneaky!
What I really liked about this book is all the colorful photos of the finished products. For me, I need to have a visual when deciding what to make. I don't know why, I just feel more motivated if I know what it looks like. There are also many helpful parenting tips printed throughout this book. Those alone would make this a great buy!
The downside is that I tend to make things on the spur of the moment. By looking at some of these recipes, I think I would have to plan in advance to make sure I had all the tools and ingredients in my kitchen.
All in all, I think this book lives up to it's hype. It's organized and well written. And let's face it, anything that gets my kids to eat more vegetables is well worth it's weight in gold.
- Would you like a copy of Deceptively Delicious for yourself? Just leave a comment below saying which fruit or vegetable your kids absolutely despise before October 19th. I'll select 2 random winners on the 20th.

Anything green ~lol~
This book is everywhere in the blogosphere. Count me in!
Do let me know if I am qualified though (non-US resident).
Nice idea, but its never worked for me. My anti-fruit-and-veg daughter just sniffs homemade cakes and brownies now and asks 'what's in this one then?'
She'll only eat them if I promise there's no hidden vegetables or fruit.
I want this book! My kids hate many veggies. I sub. to your rss feed also.

Oh my, this is my kind of book. My youngest (2) doesn't eat ANY veggies. I have done everything wrong, I think. Or she has inherited my husband's genes (he is JUST as bad!). I can't pick the "worst" one for those two, so I will pick the worst one for my oldest, who WILL actually eat a veggie or two - BROCCOLI!!!
Okay, I NEED this book (pretty please?) My youngest doesn't eat ANY FRUIT OR VEGGIES!!!! My oldest will at least try, but he won't go anywhere near brussel sprouts
WOW I need this book! My favorite is squash and they say no no!
My baby won't eat oatmeal or peas.
I just ordered this and am waiting for it to arrive but would love to pass another copy on as a fab gift.
My daughter has an aversion to green--especially broccoli and spinach. Help!!!
My daughter won't touch brussel sprouts!
My kids can't stand spinach. Snuck in lasagna, that's fine, but on it's own. No way.
You know, my little one is really into fruits and veges, but I can't get her to touch cucumbers. Would love this book because I want to make sure and keep our eating habits healthy but not boring.
I don't have kids yet, but my husband hates veggies. I attribute this to the fact that his mother doesn't eat veggies and NEVER served them. He hates all of them, with sweet potatoes as the only exception (and I kind of classify those as a starch). I think asparagus is his most despised of all!
My kidlets hate celery...they say it tastes like soap. I have to agree with them. Blech!
My son actually hates peas. It's weird. If they're mixed with other food, he'll eat around them and spit them out.
My 4 year old won't eat broccoli and my 1 year old hates peas. :) I would love to check out this book and get some good tips!
My kids hate 'mushy fruit' like bruised bananas or apples. They don't know if they hate veggies because they are too chicken to try them! But they do like carrots, green peppers, black olives and onions (the last three on pizza). My oldest used to love to eat frozen broccoli.

My children aren't very picky when it comes to fruit. They love it! Veggies are the same way with them. However, I do have two children that hate asparagus.
I blogged the giveaway in my Monday Edition of Contests Galore
Geez, I could use that book myself! Lol. I still don't eat any veggies or fruits, except bananas and apples. Bad bad but I've tried so hard to eat them but I have never succeeded!
My DS won't eat spinach. I sub to your RSS feed too!
My kids shy away from broccoli. Big surprise.
Th veggies my kiddos really despise are green peppers and squash.
My DS won't eat carrots or green beans.
If I had to choose just 1 - Spinich - but that doesn't mean they don't despise them all! :)
My daughter used to try anything food-wise but she's pretty much on noodles, rice and bread at this point. She rejects anything green except avocados and, oddly, seaweed...
My toddler hates carrots and lettuce. Apart from that, he´s game for just about anything, like tomatoes, spinach, avocado, etc. It helps that he has eaten mostly fresh veggies since he started on solids!
This book sounds great! I'd love to enter. My daughter hates tomatoes! Frustrating.
Brussel Sprouts! :)I'm subbed to your RSS feed!
I cannot convince Noah to eat peas....even if I cover them in chocolate!
Fortunately my kiddos like most everything, although because Daddy doesn't like tomatoes, they won't eat them... Uggh!
All linked up HERE.
I WANT THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!
My dd won't eat bananas, my ds will eat most everything, though I suspect that a plate of brussel sprouts would go untouched in our house!
Does bloglines count as being suscribed to your rss feed??
Sweet corn, believe it or not. Sounds like a great book!
We are just beginning to have conflicts on the veggie trail so I would love this book. My son dispises spinach and carrots right now. Jessica has great ways to hide them!
My daughter refuses to have anything to do with Lima Beans.
My kids refuse to eat asparagus! I would love this book!
Ohh...for an extra entry, I also blogged about this contest: Here.
Hi Carrie
Yes, Bloglines does count!
If by some chance you come back and see this message, please leave a way to contact you in case you win.
Mahalo ~ Kailani
I love veggies and my family likes most of them but they aren't big fans of beans. The one veggie that is forbidden in my house is Okra. Perhaps this book can change that!
you are on my blog under my giveaways page! thanks for such a great bunch of contests.
Oh I need this book. My four year old will eat carrots and apples and an occasional banana, and NO OTHER FRUITS OR VEGGIES!!
I wouldn't know what he despises because he won't try anything.
Carrots. He runs from them. *sigh*
Cabbage. It's not that he doesn't like it but he rarely goes for it (compared with other veggies), maybe b/c it takes some time to chew it. But then b/c it has gas forming components, I rarely give cabbage to him.
Actually, my son is very much of a veg eater but I'm looking for ideas to "spice up" his food.
the Here's for the extra points.
I've lucked out in terms of my kids eating veggies, but I gotta say, I don't think they eat enough of them. I'd probably say the one that they like the least would be spinach.
Count me in. I'd LOVE to win this book! Thanks!
This sounds great! I'd love a copy.
My son truly despised every vegetable (even potatoes!) until he was about 14 years old! Basically, I just loaded him up with vitamins and hoped for the best!
oooh! What a great giveaway!
Both of my kids hate peas... I don't really understand, why do most kids hate peas?
I could use the extra helkp in the kitchen!!!
My kids are pretty good about eating veggies raw, but nothing cooked.
Two of my children will eat broccoli, but that's it. My middle child will have no part of any veggies, except artichokes. I was thinking I need this book. I was hoping one of my fellow bloggers would be doing a giveaway!! I am going to say the least fave in this house is cauliflower!
They shy away from most veggies, esp. anything green! Help!!
Veggies? What are those? We're lucky if they eat carrot sticks at lunch! This book would be awesome to help us incorporate more into their diet!!
My little one won't eat tomatoes. I saw Jessica on Oprah. This is such a clever idea! This would be wonderful to have
Peas and Spinach for my oldest. I admit I hate peas too. Sign me up for this book. I added to my feed as I keep meaning to do forever.
My little one can't stand CARROTS! What is up with that?? Carrots are supposed to be the kid-friendly vaggie of choice! BTW_ I really want this book!
My daughter won't eat cauliflower - it seems so mild to me - go figure!
Looks like a great book! My children really don't like zucchini...
My girls will not eat squash in any form or fashion or lima beans!
I keep hearing rave reviews about this book! Great giveaway!
Broccoli! They say they don't eat trees! Whatever.... My friend has this book and made something out of it and it was so good.
Son loves broccoli, squash, hates sweet potatoes (used to like them) and tomatoee.
spinach, lima beans, ....depends on the child. That book sounds great!!
Oh my gosh, I totally would be thrilled to win this book! My kids won't eat cauliflower but then again either will I :)
Pick me, pick me!!!!
My 3year old boy doesn't like veggies at all but he is an avid juice drinker. What I do is mix carrots-apple-pineapple or other combination in a juicer and he drinks it eagerly. I think I need more ideas on how to blend in veggies in his food without him knowing it :) I think this book will be useful.. so please, pick me :)
Oh, and here's for the bonus points!
Oh, I would be 'blessed' and impressed if you picked me.I have 1 yr old twin boys, one eats a few vegies but the other eats nothing barely even eats puree fruit.
He still lives on Breastmilk, plain yoghurt, custard & little rice and even littler pasta. He has never eaten pureed vegies or even rice cereal I could so use use this book.If it weren't for the vitamins and breast milk. His borther was 800gm(1.5 lbs) smaller at birth and is now 2 lbs heavier.
Does the book say how to hide vegies in custard ?
I can't be doing it wrong and it isn't my cookin' since I feed both twins the same thing.
Even chocolate isn't a favourite of his -HELP !
I totally want to win this!! I have been using the recipes off of the site and would love the book. My kids hate most veggies, but spinach, cauliflower, peas, etc are their worst. I don't even really fight it anymore. They WILL eat raw baby carrots, so I try to throw a few on the table now and then...
My kiddos HATE PEAS!!! (So do I!)
The ONLY Veggie she eats is corn. Does that still count because it's NOT GREEN?
I'd have to say Peas - as a 2 y/o he does pretty good with other things but I have a tough time with this one too - so I can't be much of an example. HELP??
My girls and my husband all despise broccoli which saddens me because it's my favorite veggie!
broccoli is on the bottom of the list for us!
My kids don't like brussel sprouts and chards. Please enter me in this giveaway. Thanks!
I found out tonight that my son absoultely HATES brocolli. :)
angelaandmelos (@) yahoo.com
At this point, I know that my son will eat broccoli. Besides that, he doesn't seem to like much!
I bought The Sneaky Chef (a similar recipe book), but hadn't heard about this one. It sounds great!
I'm always looking for sneaky recipes since my son is soooo picky. The only problem I have is trying to sneak things into foods that kids normally like, because he doesn't like those either - spaghetti, mac n cheese, hamburgers, etc.
I'd love to try Deceptively Delicious and talk about it on my site, and link back to you!
Green Beans, he used to love them, but not anymore!
I saw this in a magazine and thought it was a great idea! My son won't eat ANY veggies except an occasional green bean...he especially hates carrots!
My son is pretty adventurous - we do "magic vegetable of the week" that he gets to select on his own. But, he does have one vegetable that I cannot get him to even put in his mouth: Kale! He refuses to eat it because it looks like a decoration. I guess he's right in a way!
ahhhh I so need to try this! For whatever reason both of my kids will NOT eat tomatoes, my 3 yr old can find the smallest little pice and then refuse to eat...she won't even touch it. I have considered putting blind folds on them~ then they could see all the 'strange things lurking in their food' but I am not sure it would be worth the mess! Thanks for the opportunity to win one! Lauralala
I loved watching her on Oprah, she's so sweet and down to earth! My son will not touch green beans, no matter how I make them. I need this book to help our family live healthier - enter me! :)
Saw this on Oprah. My kids will not touch any kind of peppers. The day I saw the show I added red bell peppers to my spagetti sauce. Worked like a charm!!
PEAS!! She won't touch them - not that I blame her.....
For the first time in my life, I am finally learning how to use my kitchen and after much trial and error, have had a few baking/cooking successes. it's very gratifying. Now, I'm think I might be ready to put together a library of cookbooks. Hope you pick my name :)
disarray[at]onebox[dot]com

My 2 year old will not touch asparagus - or most other green vegetables.
My son won't touch cauliflower!
My 4 year old went from loving veggies to refusing to eat any. We try to hide them as much as possible. Deliciously Deceptive looks amazing and easy to follow with a little advance preparation.
Already get the feed to your blog and will post something in my blog after I pick up my little guy from school.
I so want this book! I have twin daughters approaching the terrible twos and anything can help. This week they are anti-cauliflower.
Let's see.. veggies my kids won't eat...lima beans, well, any beans except green beans. And they won't eat raw carrots. Who doesn't eat raw carrots??
I have this book on my Christmas list! My son will not eat carrots! Looking forward to seeing what Jessica does with carrots in the cookbook!
She'll actually eat anything so far. She's ten months old. I give her everything from green peppers to bananas and she hasn't spit anything out yet.
Ohhh, sounds cool. I must live under a rock, I have never heard of it. That's what being a mom of two under two will do to you!! :)

So, here it goes - I hope you are all sitting down for this one!! My 7-year old stepson would rather eat fruits and veggies than anything else (including candy). I know - strange!! (But nothing to complain about!) At Holiday gatherings and parties, you'll find him with a plant of veggies and dip and fruit and not junk!! I can only hope my daughter (now 7 months) will be the same - she'll probably be the junk food junkie like mommy!! The book would be an awesome addition to my very limited recipe collection. I love to cook and am always looking for ideas.
Peas - they only get squished and squirted at each other
Love it!! I really want this book! They hate Peas!
My youngest will not eat fruit at all. Not a single bite of any fruit put in front of him. So I'm hoping this book has some good ideas for me to get him eating his fruits.
My daughter absolutely despises broccoli, even with a mountain of cheese on it.
My daughter really hates any form of squash, which is a big bummer for me since I love it. I'd love to win this book...it's been sitting on my amazon wish list for a while!
I keep hearing about this book. I would love to try out the recipes!
My daughter will NOT eat ANY vegetables - other than french fries - which really can't be considered vegetables. I've tried everything. Hopefully this book can help remedy the situation.
Jenny M Jen_n_jj@yahoo.com
my son's and like his mother before him- Raw carrots are not our fave vegie and will not be eaten by the dog- which means no hiding the evidence=)
my daughter hates ALL veggies except corn on the cob.
My kids both dislike peas. Enter me, I'd love to win! I need all the help I can get with cooking :)
i can't believe it but my son won't even eat carrots...
My 17 month old will NOT eat green beans. If I mix them in food, she'll eat the food and spit out the green beans. I end up with a bib full of half-chewed beans!
this woman is a genius! the butternut squash quesadilla recipe on Oprah's website looks amazing. My first kid is on the way but until he's old enough to be picky I'm going to practice on my husband, who is suspicious of anything too exotic and hates peas and broccoli. augustgirl01[at]hotmail[dot]com.
spinach!
My kids don't like peas. I'd love to try this cookbook.
I would have to say brussel sprouts are rough to get down their little palets and kiwi of all things! Who knew! Thanks for the giveaway!
My son will eat most of his veggies, but he won't eat peaches. I know, of everything in the world...peaches. But I'd love this book, because who can't use a little more nutrition? :)
I also subscribed to your RSS feed! Yay!
It really depends on the day. One day he is crazy for green beans, the next he is completely offended by them!
Have to say my newborn has not tried veggies yet but I will be using this for our family. It would be a great way to get more spinach in our diet.
I saw this on Oprah and it sounds so good!! I have one really picky eater that I would love to trick :-)
As far as veggies my kids don't like...probably cauliflower.
all veggies :( he loved baby food veggies..but now he's 18 months old,..and picky! i'd like to sneak some veggies in for myself too! gotta take care of the mamma!!

eewww, canned green beans and yucky sweet baked beans.
amberebasham@hotmail.com
canned peas - but they are too processed anyway!
My oldest child hates cucumbers and cauliflowwer. The next hates cucumbers. The next one hates anything that is squishy in his mouth(except bananas). And the youngest hates tomatoes and celery.
My son won't eat any vegetables except... BROCCOLI! He ain't mine I tell ya!
I've been pretty lucky and have not had a vegetable that my kids absolutely refuse to eat. Some days they are more willing to eat things than others but all in all they are pretty open to fruits and veggies.
I'm still not sure how I feel about this book. On one hand, I really want my kids to eat veggies, but on the other hand, they should have to learn healthy eatting habits, not just sneaking it in their pancakes...
I'd love to read it and see her take on this, she must cover it seeing as it should be a common concern.
I'd love to get this book...it's on my Christmas List!! My daughter turns her nose up to many veggies...especially corn and squash!
I was always told it would be harder to get my son to eat veggies than fruit but he is the exact opposite! He won't come near fruit! Specifically peach!
Well, one child detests anything that isn't grilled cheese or yogurt...but the other one likes everything except cucumbers.
Would love to win this...saw her on Regis and Kelly and she was pretty funny!
Asparagus, no doubt!
I love this idea! I've been hiding veggies for a while now and would love new recipes. Especially for the green ones - like asparagas!
Ever since I first heard of this book, I've been wanting to start hiding veggies....but I haven't gotten around to it. Having the book in hand would be a great motivation. And I'm like you - having a picture really helps!
My daughter will only eat veggies if they are drenched in ranch dressing - so pretty much her "least liked" veggie is anything without sauce!
I subscribed to your RSS feed. Thanks for the great site!
I so want to win this book!
I just posted a link to the contest on my blog: http://jenuinejen.wordpress.com/2007/10/18/picky-eaters-beware/. Also, I am subscribing by email.

So my child does not like Broccoli or caulifower! I need to learn how to make these delicious!!
I'd love to have this book! My daughter is only 6 weeks old, so we don't have a problem getting her to eat veggies yet... but it sure would be nice to squeeze some extra nutrition into my diet now and have a game plan for the future!
My kids HATE broccoli brussel sprouts well pretty much all green
My child seems to especially dislike peppers and onions. If they are pureed into something he'll eat it but if its floating in his soup, he freaks.
I've heard so much about this book. I've been very curious too take a peek at the recipes. My son hates pretty much anything that's green!!
No peas in this house! The book sounds great and we'd love a copy...
My son hates all veggies! He gets it from watching his daddy refuse to eat veggies too. Our family would benefit a lot from a book like this. I'm subscribing and posting a link.
We have hear lots about this book, and would love to have a look! Thanks for the chance!
anything green and leafy
Depends on the kid, 2 hate green beans, one hates brocolli, but they all hate squash, including my husband.
my daughter loves bell peppers, but will only eat any color beside green.
mylittlecircle@gmail.com
Miracle baby used to LOVE green beans- now when they go in, they pop right back out!
My daughter seems to hate just about everything healthy. She does, however, love bananas. Sometimes I can trick her into eating a few pieces of apple.
I subscribe to your RSS feed and love it!
Hank hates carrots.
How creative!
I would so much like to win this! sounds like a great book! I think ´hiding´ spinach, carrots, cabbage and beans will be useful.
This sounds like a great book to try. I have trouble getting my daughter to eat any of the green vegetables; she gags everytime she takes a bite!
I'm really dying to try this out. My son won't eat any tomatoes, which are my personal favorite!
I just have a little baby - but I myself hate beets, which my husband loves and we have A LOT of them. I'd like to try different recipes with beet puree to see if I can help eat the ones taking over our kitchen too.
But if I had to guess, probably my baby won't like carrots too much. Mom didn't eat to many when she was prego...not my favorite!
Spinach
I would have to say asparagus. Not even a bite!
I love using the chunky primavera spaghetti sauce with all the vegetables in it, though, because I get to sneak all those vegies in without any of them being the wiser!
I'm posting a link on my blog. It'd be lovely to win the book!
